5th Annual WFA Independent Film Festival Feb 18-27 2016!

A bit of advice for your Film Festival submission

As our submissions are in full swing for our 2017 Winter Film Awards Independent Film Festival, it seems like a good time to update and repost this ….

A while back, we posted What Festival Directors Really Think from Stephen Follows (Blog) and Your Movie’s Been Accepted to a Festival – Now What? from Filmmaker Forum.

Also, check out the Winter Film Awards FAQ!

Here is some more advice for filmmakers looking to submit films to smaller Film Festivals or who have already been accepted to a Festival.

In General

  • Be findable! We frequently hear about films that sound interesting and we would love to invite them to the Festival, but are unable to track down the filmmaker. Make sure you have a website with a “Contact Us” option and make sure you monitor the email account. WordPress and other services are free, so there is no excuse to not have a website for your film. At the very least, build a Facebook page for your film and include a means to contact you. Ensure that if someone googles the name of your film, they get a result that allows them to contact you.

Your Film Submission

  • Your film is too long. Of the films reviewed for the past few years’ Festivals, we thought that two films could have been longer and 25% were exactly the right length. The rest would have benefited from being cut by about ⅓

Winter Film Awards Independent Film Festival Announces
2017 CALL FOR ENTRIES

Winter Film Awards showcases emerging filmmakers from all genres from around the world, with a special emphasis on highlighting the work of women and minority filmmakers.

New York, NY (July 1 2016): The Winter Film Awards Independent Film Festival (WFA) announces a Call for Entries for its 6th Annual celebration of independent film, to be held February 23 – March 4, 2017 in New York City. Filmmakers from around the world will travel to NYC to attend the Festival’s full week of film screenings and industry networking after-parties, which will conclude with a glittering awards ceremony to be held on March 4, 2017.

The rapidly growing Festival – which was recently voted one of the Top 10 Best Reviewed Festivals on FilmFreeway – seeks a diverse collection of creative indie films from NYC and worldwide in all genres – ranging from narrative features to short films, from documentaries to animation, and from music videos to web series and horror films. Outstanding work will be awarded for each category, along with Best Director, Best Actor/Actress, Best Original Score, Best Student Film and the NY Perspectives Award for best depiction of the New York multi-cultural experience. For the 2016 Festival, 86 films from 26 countries were selected for screening, including 40% made by women, 40% made by people of color and 26 first-time directors. Works of all genres, forms, and lengths are considered for Festival screening.

Independent filmmakers from around the world are invited to submit films online via …

Steffanie Finn, WFA Executive Director says “At Winter Film Awards, we believe everyone deserves a fair shot at getting their voices heard. Emerging filmmakers with low budgets and no connections are so often ignored in favor of the standard big budget generic action films – exciting low-budget films are created all over the world; we need the opportunity to actually see them! It’s so exciting for WFA to help get these stories seen and to provide our festival attendees the opportunity to view films they might never think to seek out otherwise.”

Among our $50+ in awesome prizes, winners of the Best Picture, Best Short and Best Horror Feature categories will receive an InkTip Script Listing: A listing of your script on InkTip so that producers and reps can find you. InkTip: Where producers go for scripts and writers. Producers have made more than 200 films from scripts and writers they found through InkTip.

About Jungle Software

The team at Jungle Software were once a bunch of guerrillas, guerrilla filmmakers that is. Much like all filmmakers, they struggled with all the little details that you need to keep track of when producing a film. They had to do it all, and they needed software that could help manage it all. But, alas, there was nothing out there that fit. The ones that came close either didn’t integrate with one another, were klunky, buggy, or hard to use, and most were way beyond their budget. So, they built their own product, and today, Gorilla is a full-suite of invaluable tools for producing films and videos.

Jungle Software provides filmmakers and storytellers of all levels and genres with a full range of software solutions, including Gorilla Pro film production software, the Gorilla Ratebook labor union rate guide and StoryO story organization software.

Jungle’s Gorilla 6 is the most comprehensive film and video production tool on the market today.  Gorilla 6 gives you the ability to manage your entire production in one tightly integrated piece of software.  Full-featured production scheduling including breakdown sheets, cast and crew management, locations, storyboards and shot lists.

Chimpanzee is Gorilla’s little cousin, designed for low budget projects, web content providers and student or beginner filmmakers.  Chimpanzee offers traditional film scheduling & budgeting features at an affordable price.
